The Gear Upgrade Screen
There are four options available to you when looking at Gear Properties: Upgrade Gear (raises the Ki), Reroll Property 1 (Top Property slot), Reroll Property 2 (Bottom Property slot), and Reroll Perk.
The only option available at first will be Increase Ki. This option is available on the Green & Blue gear you will find. When you find a piece of gear that suits your playstyle and build, keep it and equip it. If you find a higher Ki item, in most cases it is probably better to Increase the Ki of the currently equipped one vs replacing it unless the replacement is of the same Gear type (ie you want to run Concussion Bombs but now found a Blind bomb, just raise the Ki of the Concussion Bomb).
Once you unlock Purple Gear OR raise the Ki of a Blue gear to 80 = you will then gain access to all rerolling options (Upgrading, Reroll Properties, Reroll Perk).
Increase Ki

Increasing Ki will do just as it says and increase the Ki level of the gear by 1.
The purpose of raising Ki is to have a higher Total Ki on your character.
Total Ki influences damage output & incoming damage resistance.
It also improves the Ki of dropped gear (higher Ki = higher Ki gear as rewards).
Upgrading Gear
The upgrade process enables you to raise the ‘Grade’ of your Properties.
Each Activation will require you to earn 3600 XP in any game mode. Upon completion, the letter Grade of both properties will be increased by one.
Example: You start with a property that is C grade, Activate the upgrade process, then earn 3600 XP. The property will now be a C+
Higher Grades = higher % on properties.

Reroll Property 1 & 2

Rerolling properties is different in Yotei Legends s Tsushima Legends.
Each time you reroll, the only change you are making is to the Property.
This time around in Yotei it is not cost-prohibitive to roll all the slots. Rolling ONLY changes the property, it does NOT influence the Grade (which is what the % is tied to)
to increase the %, you must Upgrade the gear (or find another gear with a better Grade)

What’s changed since Tsushima? Property slots are independent from one another. Why this matters in Yotei is that in Tsushima Legends, you could have the same possible property choices in both slots (ie Property 1 or 2 could be Melee Damage % BUT you could only roll one of them, so if Property 2 had Melee Damage %, Property 1 no longer had the option to have Melee Damage %). In Yotei, these slots are fully independent and selecting a property in one slot does not affect the property in another slot.

Perks, for the most part, add an additional ability or functionality to the specific Geaer they are on or to your total build (ie Scorch Bomb on Concussions Bomb, Parry Heal on Charm, etc). There are a few exceptions that will simply be stat boosters (Fire Master on Charm increases fire damage)
Rerolling the Perk slot allows you to change the Perk.
Legendary Gear exceptions when Rerolling:
- Legendary gear are able to have higher Max % values at S Grade
- Legendary gear are unable to roll certain Perks (dependent on the Gear)
- Legendary COST MORE when completing the Increase Ki process
It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED in the early game to level the Ki of gear as you progress. It is NOT cost-prohibitive vs the resources it takes to level up Ki.
Late-game you then want to focus on finding gear that are close to perfect grades (ie A- or higher), and then Upgrade those to increase the Grade (until you reach S).
